News is coming in, and it's not looking great. On Tuesday, September 2nd, Météo-France published its summer 2025 report showing that the months of June, July, and August were particularly hot, making this summer the third hottest after 2003 and 2022. It also marked the fourth consecutive summer of extreme heat.

A super hot summer with a record-breaking June
According to the climate report from Météo-France, a deviation of +1.9° C compared to the average was observed during the summer of 2025. Just for comparison, +2.7° C was recorded in 2003 and +2.3° C in 2022. Overall, an average temperature of 22.2° C was recorded throughout the summer, making it the third hottest summer since measurements began in 1900 — in 2003, an average of 23.1° C was noted, and 22.7° C in 2022.
June was exceptionally hot with
36,000 hectares burned in France
With two heatwaves, France faced 27 days of extreme heat. An excess of 10% sunshine was indeed observed.
This lack of rain and this major drought led to numerous and very violent wildfires. 36,000 hectares were ravaged by flames in 2025, notably in Aude, where an unusual fire broke out and destroyed 11,133 hectares.
