As the planet is about to exceed 7 out of its nine climate limits, the weather is going haywire in every direction, and we’re clearly going to all die because of global warming, the City of Paris thought that it was the right time to take action by proposing hundreds of new measures to make the French capital more eco-friendly. And even if it might be a bit late, we appreciate the gesture, and we’d like to break it all down for you.

A Fierce Fight Against the Heat

In 2050, it will be 50°C in Paris. A pretty horrifying fact, yet very likely, against which the capital has decided to act, to better manage extreme living conditions. And at the heart of this campaign: the fight against the astonishing rise in temperatures. To tackle this, the city...The new (and 4th) Climate Plan consists of several measures aimed at making Paris a true «garden city», where greenery will flourish on squares, rooftops, streets, walls...

300 new hectares of green spaces like the ones we've already mentioned in the 20th district, in the square of the City Hall, from Concorde, or even at the Champs-Élysées, not to mention the urban forests popping up here and there. Planting over 170,000 trees from one end of the capital to the other. Creating "cool islands" accessible within a 7-minute walk from all homes. Plus, removing impermeable surfaces from 40% of the territory.

e. Essential measures that primarily serve to ensure the protection of Parisians.

Imagining the homes of tomorrow

More broadly, the City plans to tackle this issue by rethinking construction as well as the circulation methods in and around Paris. For example, this is why the périphérique recently dropped to 50 km/h. Or why the mayor of Paris has been actively involved in the development of cycling, creating more than 1200 km of bike lanes throughout the capital.

Finally, the City plans to tackle the renovation of 5,000 social housing units per year until 2030, making them more pleasant, and especially more environmentally friendly. In the same spirit, 60,000 parking spaces will be removed, 400 school streets will be created, 120 km of bike lanes added, and 6,000 renewable energy production facilities will be developed thanks to new construction projects. A wonderful initiative, which we can only applaud!
