On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), part of the UN, released a highly alarming bulletin regarding annual and decadal climate forecasts on a global scale. According to this data, global warming has a 70% chance of exceeding 1.5°C as predicted by the Paris Agreement between 2025 and 2029. In the next five years, temperatures will continue to rise, which will also increase various climate risks, jeopardizing the future of our societies.

Towards a new heat record in the next five years
Right now, the hottest year is 2024. However, according to new data from the WMO, there is an 80% chance that a year between 2025 and 2029 will exceed this temperature record. On top of that, there's an 86% likelihood that one of those years will surpass 1.5°C, a limit established compared to the pre-industrial period between 1850 and 1900. It's also not impossible that one of these years could exceed 2°C, but the WMO considers this option to be "exceptionally unlikely."
