The question of coffee consumption is a debate that’s been around for quite some time. Is drinking it good for your health or, on the contrary, completely harmful? Until now, the answers leaned more towards the second option, but recent studies have shown that coffee consumption could actually be beneficial, as long as it’s done in moderation.


A drink that could help reduce the risk of developing certain diseases

Some prefer it in the morning at breakfast, while others enjoy it after lunch as a little boost for the rest of the afternoon. The bolder ones even drink it in the evening! Coffee lovers typically have their preferred routines. And according to the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation, drinking coffee has more than one positive effect! Waste elimination, anti-inflammatory properties, a source of dietary fiber… Coffee brings many benefits to our bodies. 

By the way, the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne highlights that the probability of death is 27% lower for those who consume two to three cups of coffee a day. They also have a 20% lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Based on a study published in Nature Medicine, Dr. Martin Juneau even points out that coffee is « a beverage of great complexity, containing more than a thousand distinct compounds, including several molecules.cute; antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds ». It might help to prevent type 2 diabetes, as well as reduce the risk of diseases like Alzheimer and Parkinson, liver cancer, lower the chances of recurrence for those affected by hormone-dependent breast cancer and colon cancer, kidney failures, and premature death. 


A low-risk consumption if kept moderate

While the beneficial effects seem to be numerous, it’s still important to maintain a moderate consumption of coffee and all other caffeinated beverages: tea, guarana, energy drinks, etc. 

Drinking too much coffee can notably lead to sleep disturbances, as well as tachycardia and anxiety. Additionally, one should not combine coffee consumption with alcohol or with vigorous activities.
