A year ago, we saw the first images of the people of Madrid applauding healthcare workers from their windows. Acts of solidarity also began in France, with donors paying for meals for all healthcare workers in certain hospitals, and some bringing them chocolates before Easter. Things have changed a lot since the first lockdown: today, even though we are all grateful to our healthcare workers, we no longer see anyone at their windows at 8 p.m., and no one goes to the hospitals to give them chocolate. A Political Day Frédéric Valletoux, the head of the French Hospital Federation, called on Wednesday, March 17, for the creation of International Healthcare Workers Day. He mentioned this in an interview with RTL, saying that it would be celebrated every March 17th to "highlight the commitment of our healthcare workers," especially during the Covid-19 crisis.💬 #Covid19: "Let March 17th become a day to pay tribute to healthcare workers, to those who have been on the front lines for a year," asks @fredvalletoux on #RTLMatin pic.twitter.com/ofzLnY3Jdv — RTL France (@RTLFrance) March 17, 2021 Valletoux also stated that this day should serve as an opportunity to annually assess the hospital situation in France: "There is also a political dimension: we want a debate on the state of the healthcare system to be held every year on this date, a question that will be at the heart of the presidential campaign." This is a way of highlighting that there is still much work to be done in hospitals currently. The President of the Republic would be "seduced by the idea," declared Le Parisien.
