A green oasis right in the heart of Paris! The project for a rotating vertical greenhouse in the Tulips Square (18th) is taking shape: the city just voted to provide 335,000 euros to fund the construction, as reported by Le Parisien on Wednesday, February 19th. This initiative was launched by the association Friends of the Ruisseau Greenhouse, which advocates for a “greener, more inclusive, and resilient Paris.”

Facing the Challenges of Dense Urban Environments
The future Serre du Ruisseau aims to be eco-friendly and sustainable, both in its structure and its uses. Equipped with three motorized carousels powered by solar energy, its movable shelves will help optimize space, while its insulation will support the growth of plants throughout the year.
A production model that’s “adapted to a very dense city, where land is scarce, similar to what already exists in Hong Kong or Singapore,” explains Denis Loubaton, co-president of the Friends of Serre du Ruisseau association, to Parisien. 17,000 plants.
ts will thus be produced each year, equivalent to 5000m² of green surface area, compared to just 54m² here.

Strengthening Social Ties
As indicated on the association's website, the space has also been designed to host educational workshops and various training sessions aimed at diverse audiences, including association volunteers, partner associations, schools, businesses, and more.
The open space of the greenhouse, which rep...35 m², will be able to accommodate around thirty people and will be accessible to people with reduced mobility. A partnership is also planned with the nearby family shelter of Paris Habitat, where people in precarious situations live. Residents will thus be able to participate in the various projects launched by the association that owns the greenhouse.

La Serre du Ruisseau, a citizen project
Located at the crossroads of three Priority Neighborhoods of the City Policy, La Serre du Ruisseau is the result of a discussion with 125 residents in 2018. With nearly 4,000 votes, it won the Participatory Budget of the City of Paris in October 2021: this unique structure in France is set to be built in the small square at the entrance of the Villa des Tulipes, in the Grandes Carrières neighborhood (18th district).
A project that is becoming a reality just as the Paris Council has met, during which the city hall adopted a wish, submitted by the deputy in charge of agriculture, Audrey Pulvar, to grant it a budget of 335,000 euros.
The construction site is set to start in May-June, with completion expected less than a year later, around March 2026, when the first plants will be ready to be planted.Voir cette publication sur Instagram
