At the beginning of November, all the animals from the historic shelter of the SPA in Gennevilliers moved to discover a new home that's three times more spacious, making this place the headquarters of the SPA, or at least the largest and most modern of all their facilities in Europe. This ambitious project realized after 3 years of work brings animal protection into a new era.

« A park rather than a prison »

On November 7th, those interested in adopting a pet were able to explore the new premises of the association, which span over 17,000 m². The program included 2000 m² of built space, much more spacious boxes than before, indoors and outdoors, without visual barriers so the animals can enjoy their peace and quiet. The facilities are designed to...cute; pairs between dogs and cats – divided into about fifteen rooms based on affinities and health conditions –, a third for rodents, reptiles, and other insects (to each their own taste).

The space also includes new socialization areas, with a number of fenced lawns where visitors can meet their future pets – and vice versa – in the best possible conditions. There will be conferences and dog training classes . are also regularly provided in the brand new amphitheater to ensure the well-being of the animals even once they’re at home.

Ecology at the heart of this ambitious project

The new shelter is also characterized by a respect for the environment present everywhere. Rainwater harvesters for cleaning. Lawns on the roofs of the buildings to ensure thermal comfort for the animals below in the summer. Solar panels are all around. In short, nothing is left to chance to make this place a paradise, both for the residents and for the planet.

Thanks to this huge space, the Gennevilliers branch hopes to multiply its actions, aiming to increase from 3500 adoptions per year to an average of 5000 or 6000. For now, the new buildings can welcome around 120 dogs, nearly 200 cats, and about twenty “new” pets. It’s a place that opens up to the city, promoting the human-animal bond, while ensuring ideal living conditions for them. Thank you, SPA!
