It was the summer event of 2025 in Paris: after 100 years of being banned, Parisians finally got to take a dip in the Seine. Since July 5th, three new free and supervised swimming locations have been added to the Villette Basin, the Saint-Martin Canal, and the Rives de Seine Park: the Bercy quay, the Marie Arm, and the Grenelle Arm. The result? Over 100,000 people have already taken the plunge.
The game-changing success
Initially set to run until August 31st, the experience was supposed to end this weekend. But due to an unprecedented enthusiasm, with a peak of 23,500 swimmers during the heatwave week of August 15th, the city decided to make some changes. Anne Hidalgo announced: “Nearly 100,000 swimmers have already had the joy of bathing this summer.”
Tea in the Seine, and in light of this exceptional success, I’ve decided to extend the opening of the Grenelle site until September 7, and that of Bercy until September 14. »See this post on Instagram
An Extended Summer by the Water
The icing on the cake: Parisians will even get to enjoy one last festive dip. “A final weekend of swimming at Bercy on September 20 and 21 will also wrap up this beautiful first summer of swimming in the Seine,” specified the Mayor of Paris, who added:
&quo; Thanks to the commitment of the dedicated teams, this dream has become a reality. It already represents a precious and lasting legacy for Paris. »If you haven't dared to take the plunge yet, you know what you need to do: swimsuit, sunglasses, and head to the Seine to extend summer a little longer!
