Paris covered in a beautiful white blanket is quite rare, creating quite the event; yesterday, the Caetano depression dropped temperatures to around 0°C, leading to record snowfall in Île-de-France. The entire region was placed under orange snow-ice alert by Météo France early in the morning, when the first snowflakes began to fall, continuing to fall heavily until early evening. A phenomenon that is particularly unusual in November, according to meteorologists.

A record since 1968

Late in the evening, the Paris-Montsouris station (14e) recorded up to four centimeters of snow in the capital, breaking a record: November 21 would be the snowiest day for a November since 1968. According to data from Météo.data.gouv, on September 17, 1968, this same station reported six centimeters.

This morning, the sky is free of snowflakes, with temperatures timidly rising to 3°C; however, 24 departments remain under orange alert for snow, ice, and wind. Snow has fallen more heavily in Plessis-Gassot (Val d’Oise), reaching 20 centimeters, while the north of Yvelines has seen several dozen centimeters of powder.

Joyful Parisians

Despite the numerous inconveniences caused by the weather – delays at Charles de Gaulle Airport, 270,000 households without electricity, icy roads – Parisians were at least able to enjoy the special atmosphere that filled the capital. While the more adventurous among them quickly grabbed their snowboards or skis to ride the slopes of Sacré-Cœur, others simply strolled around the snow-covered monuments to capture the day with some memorable snapshots.
