A wedding worthy of a movie. This Saturday, October 25th, in the heart of the restored cathedral, the carpenter from Lorraine, Martin Lorentz, married his partner in a setting that few have the chance to step into. For three years, he has been a part of the reconstruction of Notre-Dame, shaping the beams of the new framework, and replicating the ancient techniques of medieval builders.

A « yes » steeped in history
One year after the reopening of the building to the public, this symbolic wedding is much more than just a ceremony : it serves as a living tribute to all the artisans who contributed to the rebirth of the monument, six years after the fire on April 15, 2019. « It’s a childhood dream and an immense pride », Martin Lorentz shared with France Télévisions, moved to have been able to say « yes » under the vaults he helped to save.

The permission to celebrate this wedding in the heart of the cathedral was granted by the Archbishop of Paris, Monseigneur Laurent Ulrich. A rare privilege, in a place that is still highly secured. The mass was celebrated by Monseigneur Olivier Ricordeau, rector of Notre-Dame, in front of about 500 guests, including many fellow carpenters and workers from the « Rebuild Notre-Dame de Paris » project.

An Exceptional Blessing
Everyone has celebrated the beauty of the symbol: that of a man who, with his own hands, helped restore one of the world’s most famous monuments, and then joined his life with the one he loves right there. A year after its reopening, Notre-Dame welcomes back not only its faithful and visitors, over six million since July, according to the parish, but also its primary purpose: to be a place of life, faith, and emotion.
