The Editor

A few months ago, the closure of the UGC Normandie on the Champs-Élysées made quite a stir, highlighting a decline in popularity of the avenue, which has become a tourist hotspot and luxury shopping destination. This trend seems to be continuing into early 2025, with the closure of the Fnac. It's an unfortunate event, but the store decided to brighten things up a bit by organizing a huge clearance sale. The plan includes 10 days of discounts and great deals before the store officially closes on January 12th.

The downfall continues

After the cinema, and also the legendary Disney Store that closed its doors in 2023 (the last one in France), it's now the Fnac's turn to leave the world's most famous avenue. This marks a significant turning point in the h.

The story of the institution that occupied these premises for nearly 28 years, after a opening in 1997. A rather sudden decision, which was the only viable option for the company, in light of a rent that was becoming increasingly high and a clientele that was becoming more international (and thus less interested in the store's offerings).

To make a statement and minimize the losses, the store has, of course, offered new jobs to each of the 89 employees at the 8th street location. Similarly, to ensure that the losses aren't too significant, it is offering a true ocean of discounted prices for 10 days to clear out its stock as much as possible. Books, high-tech gadgets, music, stationery… everything must go! It's a great opportunity to make the most of the gift vouchers received at Christmas.

A still-secret successor

While the closure of this Fnac marks a turning point for the avenue, for now, no information has been confirmed about the brand that will take over the space. According to some rumors, it might be a popular large chain. Many are betting on a ...H&M or a Zara, which would undoubtedly have the means to pay the very high rent, while offering a more suitable selection for the many tourists who have come to fulfill a dream: shopping on the Champs.

But a little heads up: this huge unique sale is already drawing in the crowds this morning, and if you plan to go, be ready to do a little shuffling, maybe even step on one or two of your neighbors to snag that precious vinyl that’s caught your eye. Because, heads up, even though the sale lasts until Sunday in 8 days, the best deals might fly off the shelves in the first few days. So, happy bargain hunting!
