Every year, different elements announce the return of spring in Paris. The singing birds, the blossoming trees, the open-air events popping up, and especially the temporary terraces taking over every little corner of the sidewalks in Paris. And 2025 is no exception, as they'll be back in less than 15 days. Great news, but it does come with some restrictions.

7 months of happiness

We're almost there! The countdown has begun, and on April 1st, all bars and restaurants with a permit issued by their district town hall will be able to double their number of chairs and tables to welcome all Parisians in search of the slightest ray of sunshine. A perfect opportunity to soak up some vitamin D and start recharging the batteries after a slightly grey and gloomy winter.

In just two weeks, restaurateurs will be able to start setting up these additional spaces, which emerged right after the Covid crisis, and this until October 31st. It will be 7 months of intense work for them, with undoubtedly more active services, 7 months of joy for us, filled with clinking glasses and laughter at every street corner.

Stricter rules

However, for a few months now, these famous ephemeral terraces, though eagerly awaited like the Messiah by most of us, are increasingly raising questions, especially due to the nuisances caused for residents. As every year, these spaces will only be open until 10 PM and in specific locations. But in 2025, the...rçants must also respect an aesthetic consistency between this annex and the environment of their establishment.

No more heating, lighting, wooden pallets, tall plants, or tents! The rules just keep coming, and one thing's for sure: with the growing number of complaints, inspections and penalties are likely to be tightened in the coming months. Fortunately, even though these restrictions add some extra challenges for managers at various establishments, we, the simple customers, will just have to enjoy this little extra space as best as we can!
