Eyeliner crudely impeccable. Retro bun on top of the head. Contralto voice absolutely unique and striking. Amy Winehouse released her first album in 2003, and died from an alcohol overdose in 2011, joining the sad 27 club. Less than ten years in her career, and yet, the singer became a monument of the British soul scene.

Biopic about a soul diva

We still talk about her on every street corner, we listen to "Rehab" when we smoke our first rebellious cigarettes and there are countless documentaries that emerge about her tragic story, overshadowed by addictions. We are still moved when we think about the incredible Amy by Asif Kapadia, presented at the 2015 Cannes Festival and Oscar winner for Best Documentary of the year.

Another production about the singer, but this one has a fresher, more innovative taste. Maybe because it's a biopic based on her legendary album, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (who already directed the biopic of John Lennon in Nowhere Boy), and the singer will be portrayed by Marisa Abela, who looks quite similar to Amy and seems very promising in the role of this strong, fragile woman full of hope and driven by love.

“An unbiased look at the woman behind the phenomenon”

“Told from Amy's perspective, the film is an unbiased look at the woman behind the phenomenon and the romantic relationship that inspired one of the most iconic albums of all time.”

Forever friends », reveals the synopsis of the movie. Jack O'Connell plays alongside Abela and portrays his life and drug companion, Blake Fieilder-Civil, while Juliet Cowan takes on the role of mother Janis Winehouse-Collins and Eddie Marsan (Fair Play) portrays his father, Mitch Winehouse. Lesley Manville (The Crown), on the other hand, embodies the grandmother Cynthia Winehouse.

Whether you only know his three most commercial songs or know his biography inside out (that's us), we have a feeling we'll meet at the movies. Come on, let's see each other on April 24th next.
