Forget about overcrowded public pools. This summer, the real event is happening on the 19th side. From July 4 to August 30, 2026, Paris Plages is bringing back its legendary free swimming pools at the Villette Basin. Yes, yes, you’ll be able to swim outdoors in the middle of the canal, just like your great-grandparents did in the 1920s, minus the retro style but with added safety.
Four pools
To prevent total chaos, the area is ultra-secure with underwater nets in place, so no weird fish or old Vélib' will tickle your toes, and the water is monitored and cleaned every two hours. The City of Paris has divided the spot into four zones to keep everyone happy, with two paddling pools, over 40 cm for the little ones or to dip your legs in total relaxation. A pool that is 1.2 meters deep, perfect for floating while chatting about the latest gossip. And a large pool of 2 meters for the real athletes who want to show off and swim some laps.

And because life is not just about swimming, the Seine quays turn into a true ephemeral seaside resort. In between your splashes, you can claim a sunbed: first come, first served, it’s a battle! You can rinse off in the showers or warm up with some fun activities: canoeing, pedal boating, zip-lining, trampoline, or the unbeatable combo of pétanque and foosball.

The spot can welcome up to 200 people at the same time per slot. So, you better be quick to grab your spot. Put on your flip-flops, grab that sunscreen with SPF 50, and come take a dip.
It’s free, it’s cool, and it’ll save you from melting away in your 15m² all July long.
Let’s hit the water !
