Monday, March 10, the flags will be at half-mast in the sky of Paris, and all art lovers in the capital will be dressed in black. The largest collection of modern art in the world (alongside the MoMA in New York) will take its bow before a colossal renovation expected to last around half a decade. To celebrate this event, which promises to be a renaissance for the cultural institution, the museum invites us to an extraordinary weekend of festivities, starting this Friday. And great news, access will be completely free!
4 days of intense enjoyment
Starting this Friday, March 7 at 6 PM, and until Monday, March 10 at 9 PM, which is the official closing date of the permanent collections, come join us for a whirlwind of festivities at one of the most famous museums in Paris. A mix of diverse activities, for...
exploring every nook and cranny of this building often described, but never equaled, which also offers one of the most beautiful views of the capital. « The launch of the works couldn't be imagined without a festival program », explains the museum.Voir cette publication sur Instagram
Friday night, get ready for the event "Let the Party Begin!", featuring creative workshops, a jazz concert, plus DJ sets by Busy P and Louise Chen, not to mention the many amazing performances throughout the night. We keep the energy going on Saturday, March 8 with exclusive tours and meetings with some artists, along with all the people who bring the Centre Pompidou to life every day. A unique opportunity to discover the behind-the-scenes magic. On Sunday, the 9th, we’ll focus on creation, imagination, and self-love, with relaxation workshops, writing, and delightful musical walks. And to wrap up this amazing weekend...
gram of madness, see you on Monday for the last evening, showcasing ten dancers led by the choreographer Alban Richard, and a show by DJ Simo Cel.
A project of exceptional scale
Once this beautiful weekend is behind us, we will have to say goodbye to around 2000 works permanently displayed in the museum. They will all be moved in semi-trucks to go to storage, or to other institutions in the capital, such as the Grand Palais, from France, and even around the world, like in Brussels, Malaga, or Shanghai. This operation is already colossal in itself, requiring, for example, to dismantle certain windows to take out the monumental works of Anselm Kiefer.

But don’t worry! While this weekend of festivities is prompted by the upcoming closure of the museum, the transition will be gradual, and part of the galleries and artworks will be still accessible to the public for a little while longer. The final closing of the doors won’t take effect until September 22nd, at the end of the last temporary exhibition currently scheduled. This gives us a bit more time to mentally prepare ourselves!
