The Editor

It's possible that you have come across it before, thinking of all those Parisian bistros with their white tablecloths, comfy benches, and fancy decorations. Perhaps you've eaten, enjoyed a cup of coffee, or simply spent some time in this delightful place. You might have been amazed by the timeless beauty of this art deco establishment that has kept its appeal since 1927. La Coupole has been a shining light in the Montparnasse area, attracting locals, artists, and writers for almost a hundred years. This legendary restaurant still enchants both old and new Parisians with its lasting charm.

Between champagne and celebrations

The story of La Coupole begins with two Auvergnats, René Lafon and Ernest Fraux. The latter, already the owner of Le Dôme, took the crazy gamble of investing in an old wood depot to create one of the most legendary brasseries in the capital, alongside his brother-in-law. And it was a success! Having the best craftsmen and architects in their contacts, they brought to life a place where warmth and conviviality reign

.
One of the most unforgettable moments from the restaurant? It has to be its opening night. On December 20, 1927, La Coupole welcomed its first guests and threw a party that would make Gatsby proud. With around 2500 attendees, this iconic party destination in the city ran into a "dramatic" problem: the 1500 bottles of champagne they had planned were not sufficient! Needless to say, a lively evening was ensured.

As lively as it was a hundred years ago

Quickly, La Coupole attracts the cream of the crop from the artistic and literary world: Cocteau, Dali, Picasso, Sartre, De Beauvoir, Colette and many others take turns at these wooden tables. In the basement where there is a dancing club, Joséphine Baker enchants souls with her movements while the trendiest blues and jazz musicians conquer Paris with their catchy and rhythmic music.

Today, nothing has changed much. The saxophones and double basses have been replaced by the DJs' turntables that continue to make the restaurant vibrate as if it were its first day. You can enjoy delicious seafood and traditional French cuisine. In addition, more specifically a lamb curry like no other. From its decoration to its atmosphere, to its gastronomy, La Coupole radiates the same festive and welcoming energy that it did a century ago. It's a true Parisian gem that continues to shine brightly in the city of lights.

Iant exude the same festive spirit that enchanted artists and intellectuals a century ago. A true symbol of the Parisian art of living! Ole tells us a little bit of history. In fact, it was classified as a historical monument in 1988, there are no coincidences. You will now know where to go to delight your taste buds and hear a lovely story.
