Behind this new address opened in February, we find Hugo, 31 years old, with a contagious good mood and a mini-star in the kitchen. With over 150K followers on Insta, he has made the web drool by reimagining classic Lebanese dishes with a diaspora twist. With an Italian mom and a Lebanese dad, he grew up among the zest of candied lemons and perfectly cooked risottos. His restaurant is a reflection of him: mixed and sunny.
Reinvented Lebanese Cuisine
At Mazmez, we invite you to forget everything you think you know about Lebanese cuisine. Here, there are no clichés or lukewarm tabbouleh made from tired parsley. Every plate tells a story, a blending, a journey. The homemade labneh is garnished with chunks of sweet beetroot and blood orange to awaken your taste buds. The chickpeas nestle in a zucchini fatteh bathed in tahini sauce, and this baked egg, cuddled in a creamy mushroom sauce with seven-spice lamb confit... a plate full of emotion born from Hugo’s memories, between two grandmothers: one who took him mushroom picking in the forest, and the other who simmered the lamb confit. For dessert, the poached pear with cardamom served in whipped mascarpone cream, resting on a bed of crispy kadaif. Light, floral, sublime.
All in Color and Transparency
Everything in this place breathes attention to detail and transparency. The decor, imagined by the Lyon-based agency Obier, mixes recycled materials, warm wood tones, and Levantine inspirations. The kitchen follows a philosophy of seasonality and sustainable agriculture. The meats are French, farm-raised, and halal, and the house cocktails are lovingly crafted by Célya, while Lebanese hospitality is elevated to an art form.
And for those who feel overwhelmed by choices, Hugo has thought of everything: the Kell Shi menu, which takes you on a sensory journey for just €35, all inclusive. Two savory dishes, one sweet, and a drink. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy!
