Let's take a musical journey from Tunisia to Lebanon, from Syria to Algeria, passing through Palestine, where Arabic music shines in all its glory. This rich diversity is beautifully showcased in the lineup for the 2024 Arabofolies festival. In its 9th edition, the festival promises an eclectic mix of artists with varied musical styles, coming together on one vibrant stage to showcase their creative talents. Get ready to witness 6 enchanting concert evenings at the Arab World Institute. But wait, the fun doesn't stop there! To kick off this 8-day celebration, the Arab World Institute is hosting a special free screening night on June 13, 2024. Come and watch "Je reviendrai là-bas" by Yassine Redissi, a heartwarming film about H.enri Tibi, a Tunisian Jewish singer whose love for his homeland was beautifully captured in his music. Accompanied by singer Slim Ben Ammar, the director takes us on a journey to rediscover the legacy of this forgotten artist. Through themes of friendship, unity, and nostalgia, this feel-good documentary explores a Tunisia that was once seen as a "lost paradise." Join us for this unforgettable evening of music and magic!

Tunisia in the spotlight

For its 2024 edition, Arabofolies gives full freedom to Tunis on Seine, a young festival celebrating its fourth year this year, on June 13, 14, and 15. The program for these two exceptional evenings includes a mix of Tunisian folklore and pop with the trio Bénarès and a concert by singer Slim Ben Ammar, inspired by the repertoire of Henri Tibi, hero of the documentary film projected the previous evening, on Friday 14; and two indie concerts, one more folk - the duo Yüma - and the other more rock - Kohhen El Kef on Saturday 15.

A mix of musical genres

Get ready for some musical magic on Sunday, June 16! The Palestinian duo Sabîl, featuring percussionist Youssef Hbeisch and oud player Ahmad Al Khatib, along with cellist Vincent Ségal, will enchant us with their debut album Tawal. This masterpiece is a vibrant fusion of dreamy melodies, intricate oud harmonies, and mesmerizing percussion that will take us on a whimsical journey towards eternity.

The next week begins with Mohamed Abderrachid Segueni, a classical Algerian singer from a family of musicians. He will guide us on a journey to Constantine for a performance that fuses Constantine malouf and Aïssaoua singing, two musical styles with deep cultural connections yet distinct in their sounds and instruments.

The next day, Yara Lapidus, a Franco-Lebanese singer-songwriter, will present her version of great classics of Western pop such as "How" by John Lennon and songs by Iggy Pop, infusing them with her native language and inspirations from traditional Arab music. Finally, on Thursday, June 20, Interzone, a fusion of Serge Teyssot-Gay and Khaled Aljaramani – one a French guitarist, the other a Syrian oud player – will celebrate their 20 years together and the release of their latest album with a concert that is reflective, nostalgic, and dreamy.
