Traditional and Contemporary Music Takes Center Stage
Jazz, classical, rap, techno, melodies from around the world… This year, June 21st will celebrate the diversity that characterizes the music world. At the Palais-Royal, a variety of events will harmonize with this special day. Festivities will kick off at 1:30 PM with Bagad Keriz, a Breton musical ensemble made up of about thirty musicians, who will parade to introduce you to their traditional music. At the same time, there will be performances featuring life-sized animal puppets that will coincide with the music being played.

Women and world music will be in the spotlight! Get ready for various polyphonic songs from Brazilian, Mediterranean, Latin American, Occitan, Pyrenean, and even Languedocian repertoires, performed for you between 1:50 PM and 3:10 PM by Poplitè, Maaar, Daunas de Còr, and La Mal Coiffée.
While the focus will certainly be on music, live performances will also play a central role in this celebration. Blending traditional and contemporary music, melodies and dances, the performances from 3:20 PM to 6:45 PM will take you on an artistic journey beyond borders. For instance, Nøkkenoc will mix Gascon and Scandinavian traditions with rock and metal sounds, while the show by Super Parquet will create a dialogue between…It’s psychedelic sounds blended with the traditional music and dances of Auvergne. And for even more fun, two big dances await you on a dance floor set up just for the occasion. We kick things off at 4 PM with a great dance for young audiences, followed by a dance for everyone at 6 PM!
A celebration accessible to all
And because the Music Festival is a national celebration designed for everyone, the Ministry of Culture is committed to offering cultural mediation activities so that people with disabilities or facing economic difficulties can also join in on the fun. Therefore, Bagad Keriz will organize a workshop introducing Breton instruments for hospitalized children, supervised by the L’Envol association.

During the Youth Dance Ball, Ronan Le Gouriérec will guide young people from two Parisian schools as they take their first steps in Breton dances. Seksion Maloya will also get the audience moving with their Reunionese melodies and will host workshops to introduce participants to maloya. This music from Réunion is played with specific instruments – roulèr, bob, sati, kayanm – which attendees will have the chance to explore.
