Tattooed up to his neck, black nail polish and a Sweeney Todd-style straight razor in his hands, Fatih can be intimidating at first glance. And yet, this barber, rocker, and biker who runs Alex Haircut's Barbershop is actually straightforward, down-to-earth, and mischievously welcomes all curious people who dare to step through the door.

It's impossible to walk down Rodier Street without stopping in front of this little shop window. Mexican calaveras, vintage palettes, tattoo artist silk screens, and figurines collected from flea markets all over the world on a background of punk, rockabilly, or hardcore music - there's no doubt, we're definitely at Fatih and Mathilde's place. Armed with a shaving brush and a pair of scissors, these two jolly fellows create wonders when it comes to retro 1940s hairstyles.

« Like Balavoine, I've always dreamed of being an artist... but I can't draw », the barber jokes.

r when he wants to explain his career choice. It is also a family story: smells of his father and grandfather's shaving soap come back to him from his childhood, both barbers. While these memories come from Turkey, Fatih now practices his art in the 9th, giving a true old-fashioned shave to all kinds of hair. "Here we have working class people, students, artists... It's eclectic. It doesn't matter if you have a high school diploma or nothing at all, we don't care. What matters here is the human being," he says. If the salon sets itself apart from society, it takes the idea to the extreme by inviting clients to take their time. "We don't know and we don't want to rush. If you come here, it's to relax, have a coffee, and not be in a hurry," explain Fatih and Mathilde. What is important to them? Honoring a bygone era., a period they did not know but which they miss, the 40s and 50s, when the economy was booming, when people took care of themselves, when aesthetics were the watchword. Like here, you know.
