The Editor

His passing has left the world of cinema and culture in mourning. On January 16th, the incredible filmmaker David Lynch departed from this world, leaving behind works of the 7th Art and more that have touched entire generations. To pay tribute to this talented artist, the Duchamp gallery, located in Yvetot, Normandy, is organizing an exhibition in his honor from June 21 to September 21, 2025. It’s a wonderful opportunity to (re)discover his most fascinating creations and take a plunge into his universe that is both dark and dreamlike.

A Renowned Filmmaker and Screenwriter

He was an essential filmmaker, that's undeniable. He is credited with ten feature films released between 1977 and 2006, including Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, and Inland Empire. He is also particularly known for his short films and series, including Twin Peaks. Blending film noir and surrealism, David Lynch broke free from all cinematic codes to develop a unique universe of his own.But he had more than one string to his artistic bow.

An artist of many talents

In addition to cinema, David Lynch also took the literature world by storm with his memoir Memories, Dreams, Reflections in 2006 and The Space of Dreams, a collaboration with Kristine McKenna in 2018. Advertising held no secrets for him, as he directed various commercials starting in the 1990s for brands like Yves Saint Laurent, L'Oréal, Calvin Klein, and many more. He contributed to numerous musical productions, some of which appeared in his films, like the tracks “Mountains Falling” and “Go Get Some” from the album Blue Bob, which he created in 2001. It was in 2011 that he released his first solo album, Crazy Clown Time.

He certainly expressed himself the most through graphic arts outside of cinema. Having studied painting and drawing when he was younger, these two disciplines have always been by his side. His first exhibition in Paris, The Air Is on Fire, took place in March 2007. In the summer of 2025, a wide range of his works will be on display, including around fifty lithographs, as our colleagues from France Bleu confirm.
