Since Tuesday, May 13, a huge concrete wall is visible at the Trocadéro Square. Spanning 10 meters, it grabs the attention of passersby and tourists with its bleak shape and worn-out appearance. However, far from being just a leftover from some ongoing construction in the area, it’s actually an authentic piece of the famous Berlin Wall, a true testimony to history. So, what’s it doing here? Let us explain.


A fragment of history in the heart of Paris

The French capital is brimming with historical monuments that make it renowned all over the world. And this week, a new construction that is extremely symbolic has joined the ranks of these iconic markers.

Indeed, it’s nothing less than a piece of the Berlin Wall that has just been installed in the Trocadéro square, right in front of the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine.

And for good reason, from May 14 until September 28 this year, the institution is hosting a one-of-a-kind exhibition dedicated to Berlin, and its unique history during the Cold War. To immerse visitors in the theme even before they step foot in the museum, the teams have set up an authentic piece of the wall, about ten meters long.

This trip back in time holds disturbing echoes with our current society, offering us a grand retrospective that is fueled by a sense of wonder.
