The Editor

Until July 21, 2025, the Louvre invites you to discover fashion like you've never seen it before. In a spectacular exhibition, both in size and in the pieces it showcases, this cultural institution weaves a thread between History, the history of art, and the creative genius of the greatest fashion designers of the 20th and 21st centuries. An exceptional glamorous interlude, which will take up residence within the museum's permanent collections for a few months.

Clothes do not make the monk

Since its announcement a few months ago, the new exhibition at the Louvre has become the cultural event of 2025, establishing itself as a must-see rendezvous even before its opening. We entered with extremely high expectations...

e; in the first rooms of the immense wing of the Art Objects, which hosts Louvre Couture. And one thing is certain, the initial moments didn't take our breath away. So much so that we were just about ready to shout about false advertising, demand a scandal, and ask for a refund. But it only took diving a little deeper into the maze of the exhibition to change our minds, and rather more than once...

A Breathtaking Stage Design

Room by room, as you explore the displays (around sixty silhouettes and about thirty accessories), it’s impossible not to get swept up in the magic, thanks to the absolutely fascinating parallels drawn between the creations of Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent, and Iris Van Herpen, and the works from the Byzantine era, the Renaissance, and modern times. Displayed on massive mirrored platforms, the dresses play with our perceptions, blending into the decor, appearing to float between the floor and the ceiling, in an aesthetic and enchanting ballet. Piece by piece, a fascinating dialogue unfolds between the historical pieces and the fashion creations, within a stage design that becomes increasingly captivating as you move through the exhibition.

A true maze of creations

We want to give you a little heads-up! If you decide to dive into this experience (which we highly recommend, as you might have guessed), we suggest you set aside plenty of time. And for good reason, the exhibition is incredibly long. The 99 pieces on display stretch across dozens and dozens of rooms, coming from all angles, and it’s not always easy to navigate without a valuable museum map. Could this be a nod to Ariadne wandering through the Minotaur's labyrinth with her famous thread, linked to sewing? The mystery remains unsolved. In any case, don’t let this discourage you from attending this event, or worse, cutting your visit short, because some of the most spectacular creations await you!

located in the last rooms. And there’s just one more thing to say : hats off !
