There are certain personalities that, through the ages, continue to fascinate us. We could mention Lucy, the first australopithecine discovered, Joan of Arc, the ultimate heroic figure, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, the most mysterious man in the world, or even Cleopatra. And it is to her that IMA has chosen to dedicate its next major exhibition. At the same time, XDDL might have been a bit of a dark theme… Be that as it may, starting June 11, 2025, the institution is revisiting this mythical queen.
Egypt, always and forever Egypt
Ancient Egypt is a very popular theme among major Parisian cultural institutions. This is evident from the many exhibitions that have been dedicated to it.La Villette, l’Atelier des Lumières, and also La Villette (who have done it twice). And in 2025, it will be the turn of the Institut du monde arabe to once again take us back into this extraordinary period, this time shining a light on Cleopatra, the seventh of her name (because no, the last queen of Egypt was not the only one to bear this name).
A Grand Exhibition
To pay tribute to one of the few great female figures in history, the museum invites us to dive into the mystery surrounding her with an incredible collection of paintings, sculptures, prints, manuscripts, archaeological objects, jewelry, costumes, projections, photographs… Fascinating archive materials that are as interesting as they are aesthetic, allowing us to understand a little better how the myth was created around the last queen of the Ptolemaic line, whose suicide would bring an end to the pharaonic dynasty.
