The Centre Pompidou is getting ready for an incredible journey. While it’s set to close its doors in Paris on September 22nd for several years of renovations, the Ministry of Culture announced on May 28th that the famous cultural institution will open a branch in southern Brazil, specifically in Foz do Iguaçu, by November 2027. This initiative, called Centre Pompidou x Paraná, comes from a protocol agreement signed between France and Brazil.

Highlighting South American Artistic Creation
This new cultural institution will span a wonderful 10,000 square meters, designed by architect Solano Benítez from Paraguay. It will be located not far from the Iguazu Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and at the triple border between Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. The goal? To shine a light on South American contemporary art through a multidisciplinary program. Expect to see exhibitions, conferences, live performances, and festivals! “Exhibitions will heavily feature the Centre Pompidou collection, giving the public access...privileged to major works from the most important collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe, and the second largest in the world », specifies the Ministry of Culture in a statement.

A Continued International Growth
With this new opening, the Pompidou Center aims to continue its international expansion. The cultural establishment already has branches in Brussels, Malaga, Shanghai, Al Ula, and Seoul. While it will serve as a museum like its Parisian counterpart, this Brazilian Pompidou Center will open up to a piazza accessible to the public and will house multidisciplinary spaces, educational workshops, a research library, artistic laboratories, as well as dining and shopping options », states the Ministry of Culture. A particularly comprehensive establishment, representing the first cultural venue of this magnitude in Latin America and promising to continue its journey!
