The Musical Comedy Awards: 7 accolades for Les Misérables!

New York has its Tony Awards, London has its Olivier Awards… and what about Paris? The French capital is far from being left out! This Monday, June 23, the curtain at the Mogador Theatre rose, not for a performance of The Lion King, but for the 7th edition of the Musical Comedy Trophies. Sparkles, powerful voices, breathtaking performances—this ceremony, led by the vibrant Cloé Horry, honored the best artists and performances that have brightened the Parisian stages. Les Misérables, Paul and Virginie, La Haine… A spotlight on these numerous shows that have been awarded the prestigious golden award.


Les Misérables acclaimed and multi-awarded

In a thrilling atmosphere, and amidst thunderous applause from more than 1500 spectators, the 2025 edition of the Musical Comedy Awards took place in one of the top venues for musical theater in Paris. They sang, danced, and acted… For nearly 3 hours, the talent of the artists, who have rightfully been dubbed the "Swiss Army knives at the evening's opening, as well as the hard work of those behind the scenes, was celebrated.

The ceremony kicked off with the trophy for Best Male Revelation of the year. This double award went to Nathan Desnyder for his performance in Chat Botté - The Musical and to Stanley Kassa in Les Misérables, marking the first trophy in a long line for this musical. With its status as the most performed show in the world and over 125 million spectators, Les Misérables made its big return to France at the end of 2024, staged by Ladislas Chollat at the Théâtre du Châtelet, 45 years after its creation by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg.

In total, seven Rewards were given to this exceptional musical: the Female Revelation Trophy for Océane Demontis in her role as Eponine, the Male Supporting Role for David Alexis for his portrayal of Monsieur Thénardier, the Costume Creation award, the Scenography award, the Revival award, and the Directing award. The Honor Trophy was also awarded to Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg. 


La Haine, Paul and Virginie, and Menopause also recognized

Next, Paul and Virginie, the musical by Jacques Mougenot performed at the Théâtre Le Ranelagh, received three trophies, including the long-awaited Musical of the Year award that everyone was excited about during the evening. The show was also honored with the Score Trophy and the Book Trophy. La Haine...e, the show by Mathieu Kassovitz presented at La Seine Musicale between October and December 2024, has received the Choreography Trophy as well as the Collective Award. 

Women have been especially celebrated. Agnès Pat’ won the Best Supporting Female Role Award and Emmanuelle Bougerol received the award for Female Interpreter Artist in a wonderful production./">Pride & Prejudice… or almost!. The show Menopause was awarded the prestigious Public Trophy, tied with Fabricurious, for a performance in the region. Finally, Dear Elusive received the Musical Show Trophy, and Grégori Baquet was crowned with the Male Interpreter Trophy for his role as Cosme McMoon in Colorature.

And because keeping the unique art of musical theater alive involves introducing it to younger audiences, Puss in Boots - The Musical by the Safa brothers was awarded the Young Audience Musical Comedy Trophy. With disco sounds and a medley of the most iconic musicals, the evening concluded with an outstanding ovation from an enchanted audience eager to discover more.that next year brings him a great show!
