Opened in 1932 and classified as a historical monument in 1986, it was high time for this place to come back to life. Today, this venue's ambition is to make room for the diverse range of contemporary cultural expressions while honoring the memory of this pillar of live performance in Paris.
100 years of history, and not a single wrinkle
Originally, the Studio Raspail was the project of an American couple, born right in the heart of the vibrant Parisian scene of the Roaring Twenties. This venue aimed to host avant-garde American playwrights. Edward Titus, but most notably Helena Rubinstein, played the role of patrons for artists who came from the four corners of the world to perform in their hall.
In the 1930s, the studio transformed into an art-house cinema to give visibility to experimental films. Gradually, the Studio Raspail became a ciné-club of reference, to the point of being threatened with closure for showcasing works deemed too bold. This is proof, if it were needed, that giving a chance to all types of art is truly in the DNA of these walls.
Unfortunately, in the 80s, it was a massive blow: the venue closed its doors to the public and was bought for internal use. It would reopen from time to time for associative events until 2022, when it closed again due to renovations.

A Building More Charming Than Ever
Purchased by Florence Méaux, extensive renovations have been carried out in the building with the goal of “reconnecting with the elegance and simplicity of its original setting.” On-site, the facade has regained its original sign, the performance hall features pink walls paired with white seating, and the bar has been beautifully redesigned with subtle materials and streamlined shapes reminiscent of a cruise ship.
The Studio Raspail is a cultural space for everyone, without distinction, to discover art in all its forms. In a Paris that’s becoming more uniform, we truly needed a lively cultural space that’s dynamically tailored to people’s needs.
