From March 10 to 15, 2026, the Montansier Theater in Versailles will host the play Six Characters in Search of an Author, directed by Thomas Bellorini. It's a captivating story that blurs the line between fiction and reality, creating a wonderfully intriguing experience.

Between Thomas Bellorini and the Montansier Theatre, there’s a story of rare loyalty. After presenting The Sun of Scorta in 2025, the director is back at the Versailles theatre from March 10 to 15, 2026 with a new creation: Six Characters in Search of an Author. At the crossroads of fiction and reality, of family drama and theatrical rehearsals, Luigi Pirandello’s work immerses us in a unique atmosphere, where two situations face each other in a mirror, and where the boundaries of time and reality become blurred.


A tragedy revealed throughout the play

While a rehearsal is taking place at the theater, six people seemingly coming out of nowhere burst onto the stage, demanding that the director find a writer who would agree to tell their story. As their claims unfold, the tragedy unravels. They reveal the intense drama that hangs over their family: after the birth of their Son, the Father pushed the Mother to move in with his employee. Together, they had three children, including the Daughter-in-law, with whom the Father — accustomed to brothels where men pay for the charms of women — almost commits incest.

By interrupting the rehearsals, these six characters gradually take over the stage, blurring the line between what is acted and what is not. A

fragmented narrative and an astonishing mise en abyme, with a formidable coherence.

A meticulously crafted set design

This show within a show is enhanced by the staging and lighting design that immerses the audience in each scene experienced by the six characters, creating a startling sense of realism. 

The music — essential to Thomas Bellorini's work — plays a vital role: sometimes Sicilian traditional, other times from Italian popular culture, the melodies carry the narrative, adding an even more sensitive and captivating dimension.
