The Editor

The Atelier des Lumières is once again sparkling with its new immersive exhibition dedicated to one of the greatest geniuses of modern art, Picasso. As always, we are captivated. After beautifully showcasing the works of Van Gogh, Dalí, and Monet, it’s now the Spanish painter’s turn to come to life in a whirlwind of images, sounds, and colors. An unprecedented immersive experience, later followed by a dive into the dreamlike and fabulous universe of Douanier Rousseau, which you can explore until June 29, 2025.

Picasso, a genius with many faces

Painter, sculptor, engraver, ceramist, and even theater decorator… Picasso was one of those artists whose thirst for creation knows no bounds.

pushed to exceed the boundaries of art. And while it may seem quite challenging to summarize the work of this giant of modern art in just forty minutes, the Atelier des Lumières manages to brilliantly showcase the incredible diversity and depth of his creative genius.

Through a series of photos, portraits, archival films, and projections of his works, the exhibition invites us to explore the different creative processes that made him a pioneer. All accompanied by a mesmerizing soundtrack that transports us between Paris, his adopted city, and the vibrant scenes of his Spanish heritage.

From the very first moments, the experience plunges us into the intimacy of the artist. In video, Picasso comes to life before our eyes, in his studio, as if we were there. It's quite a rare treat for a painter showcased at the Atelier des Lumières. As we wander through the vast spaces of the Atelier, his canvases transform before our eyes. The bodies distorted by cubism decompose and recombine, twist and stretch, creating a sense of perpetual movement.

From his native Spain to France, the exhibition takes us back and forth, to the heart of the arenas – where scenes of bullfights unfold,

ida become almost tangible before our eyes – then at the heart of the nightlife in Parisian cabarets, before revealing to us a world filled with circus artists and musicians, all observed through the varied gaze of the artist.

Picasso's work is a true palette of contrasts, marked by an almost palpable violence that unfolds in famous canvases like Guernica and The Weeping Woman. War, misery, and grief form with great clarity, revealing the dark side of the artist.

Then, the atmosphere changes once again. Windows open up to colorful interiors, where works from the 30s mingle with those from the 70s, and then to the sea, where Picasso invites us to explore an imaginary coastline inspired by his childhood in Malaga. In short, a sensory journey through the arts.

poques and styles, revealing an artist with many facets, sometimes dark, sometimes bright, but always true to his unmistakable signature.

The Awakening Dream of Rousseau

And since the Atelier des Lumières never does things halfway, the magic continues with the current short program,Le Douanier Rousseau, in the Land of Dreams: an immersion into the equally naive and fascinating world of Henri Rousseau, where nature transforms into a fairytale. This self-taught genius of naive art invites us on a journey to the heart of the jungle, to untamed nature, and also to his daydreams.

Here, lush forests, exotic animals and scenes of Parisian life blend together in a burst of vibrant colors. The equally magnetic soundtrack transports us to a dreamy world where characters come to life before our eyes, set in a backdrop worthy of the most beautiful tales.

Two universes, two visions of art, but a single immersive experience that invites us to rediscover these giants of art in a fresh, dynamic, and completely enchanting way.
