By the way, what is the Night of Cathedrals? It’s a European event that, since 2007, invites the public every year to discover cathedrals from a different perspective, through artistic, cultural, and spiritual offerings. It's the perfect opportunity to rediscover this magnificent monument after hours.
This Saturday, May 9th, it’s the sanctuary of Quasimodo, nestled right in the heart of Île de la Cité, in the 4th arrondissement, that opens its doors. Faithful followers, visitors, and the curious are invited to experience something truly extraordinary.
An Artistic and Spiritual Evening
The evening kicks off with a guided outdoor tour around the cathedral. From the forecourt, at the foot of the statue of Charlemagne, visitors will discover the architecture and symbols of this monument. The tours are led by knowledgeable guides.
in alternation by the volunteer guides from the CASA association (Welcoming Communities in Artistic Sites), who have been present at Notre-Dame for over 50 years.A time of silence and reflection in the heart of the sanctuary will follow, with Eucharistic adoration. The atmosphere then completely changes, making way for prayer and inner contemplation.

The evening then takes on a artistic and spiritual dimension with a remarkable vigil centered around « Saint Augustine, dialogue with God », inspired by The Confessions of Augustine of Hippo. The actress Brigitte Fossey provides the interpretation, accompanied on the organ by Vincent Dubois, the titular organist of Notre-Dame. The staging is created by Serge Sarkissian, with a strong light design by Stéphane Baquet. This ensemble offers a meeting of text, music, and performance, welcoming everyone.
The discovery continues inside the cathedral through guided tours. Between art, faith, and contemplation, the explanatory points allow for a deeper understanding of the experience.
in a calmer atmosphere.
Brigitte Fossey, an honorary voice
One of the highlights of the evening will undoubtedly be this literary and musical evening. Our guest of honor, the French actress Brigitte Fossey — known especially for her roles in Forbidden Games (1952) and La Boum (1980) — lends her voice to the Confessions of Saint Augustine. She engages in dialogue with the great organ of the cathedral, played by Vincent Dubois, who was appointed the titular organist of Notre-Dame in 2016.
