The Editor

She captivated us with her retrospectives on James Cameron and Wes Anderson, and now the Cinémathèque Française isn't done dazzling us and bringing cinema into our lives! Starting from October 8, 2025 until January 11, 2026, the Parisian temple of the 7th Art will hold an exhibition dedicated to the legendary Orson Welles, director, actor, as well as screenwriter, producer, and even playwright.

A Revolutionary of Cinema

He is responsible for some major cinematic masterpieces, including Citizen Kane in 1941, The Lady from Shanghai in 1947, Touch of Evil in 1958, and F for Fake in 1973, as well as his radio work The War of the Worlds in 1938. Born in 1915 in the United States, Orson Welles shook up the 7th Art with his unique style that was especially innovative for its time: rarely used or even bold camera angles, a more unconventional narrative, long takes, and so much more. This rebellious side that defied norms and dictates was evident both in his work and in his personal life, as he preferred to travel around Europe rather than seize a scholarship to Harvard.

An exhibition that meticulously examines every aspect of his personality and life

This exhibition is dedicated to this genius and his creative process, hosted by the Cinémathèque Française, and titled My name is Orson Welles. Without overlooking any detail, the exhibition will explore how he continually reinvented himself film after film, his enduring connection to Shakespeare, his unparalleled passion for the world of showbiz, and a significant part of history, as he was never shy about his leftist political views. To uncover every facet of this intriguing character, photographs, drawings, archives, and installations will be showcased.
