From September 22, 2026 to January 24, 2027, the feature filmed in this very château and released in theaters in 2006, makes its grand return in the form of a unique exhibition. A way to honor the venue, this great figure in French history, cinema and especially to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this film that has become a cult classic.

A journey through time in one exhibition
The meeting point is set at the Petit Trianon to walk in the footsteps of a cinema classic's filming. This exhibition features: a behind-the-scenes look at how this film was made, original costumes by Milena Canonero, as well as accessories and certain set elements. What's more, spaces will be specially recreated to give you a totally immersive experience. « Versailles was much more than just a filming location: it became an integral part of the film's language and atmosphere, a true character in the story », Sofia Coppola affirms.

A Feature Film Crowned with an Oscar
Released in 2006, Marie Antoinette stars Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman, who plays Louis XVI, among others. It won the Oscar for Best Costumes in 2007. While it competed for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, it instead received the National Education Prize.
"Twenty years after the film's release, this exhibition explores its lasting impact on the image of Marie-Antoinette and Versailles, while highlighting the role of the Château as a source of inspiration for cinema and fashion," explains Laurent Salomé, director of the National Museum of the Châteaux of Versailles and Trianon.
