The Editor

At nightfall, the luminous photographs reflect in the fully glazed walls of the ground floor of the Quai de la Photo. You can catch a glimpse of snapshots of Jane Birkin and Charlotte Gainsbourg, her mother and sister, or the iconic one depicting two legs dressed in fishnet stockings, one foot being shoed while the other isn't. To discover the rest of the exhibition, which is also eclectic, you have to go down to the basement of this eclectic place and reach the same level as the movements of the Seine. From December 15th until March 20th next year, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of her death, photographer Kate Barry is being honored. At the Quai de la Photo, as part of an intimate and poetic exhibition titled "My Own Space," curated by Sylvain Besson. A story of portraits The faces parade and follow one another. Photographer since 1996, Kate Barry had an incredible number of accomplishments. And until her passing in 2013 at the age of 46, she was a photographer with a striking duality: discreet yet in high demand worldwide. She had the ability to capture the uniqueness of a face, as well as finding that unique angle to photograph a landscape.

From fashion to nature

It was in 2002 that Kate Barry discovered a new muse that she would never leave behind: landscapes. A new space for freedom, a new space for creation, nature became her canvas.blanche where the whole story is to be written. Her favorite places? Desolate places, far from everything, abandoned.
Landscape 2002-2008 @Kate Barry In the second part of the exhibition hall, these infinite and colorful horizons are exhibited. Each shot plays with depth of field and seems divided into three, with a foreground, an intermediate plane, and a background, each bringing meaning to the image. In these landscapes, one would like to wander and get lost. No photo is like any other, the whole point being to "show the diversity of her work", says Sylvain Besson, whose recently published book is available from Éditions de La Mart. The exhibition has given its name. As captivating as they are moving, these pictures do not leave those who immerse themselves in them indifferent. We are now looking forward to discovering the next series, starting February 7th.
