The Editor

Attention archaeology enthusiasts and curious souls: the most famous pharaoh in the world is back in the capital! After a first visit in 2012, followed by a magnificent exhibition at La Villette in 2019 and an immersive experience in 2024, Tutankhamun is settling back in Paris starting July 3rd for the Tutankhamun: His Tomb and Treasures exhibition, at Paris Expo. The great news? Even if your knowledge about ancient Egypt is limited to one (or two) viewings of Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, this exhibition is made just for you. The tour features a precise reconstruction of the tomb as it was discovered in 1922, followed by virtual reality experiences. We’ll explain!

An Invaluable Treasure

More than 100 years have passed since the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, and p

However, it remains the most extraordinary archaeological adventure of the 20th century. With this exhibition – which has already traveled to several cities around the world – you will experience the event as Howard Carter did in 1922. Get ready to step into a tomb that has been closed for 3,300 years, behind a sealed door, where shining wonders of gold slowly come into view.

Expo Toutankhamon

It took ten years to transfer all the objects that made up Tutankhamun's funerary furniture out of the tomb. The mummy, adorned with luxurious jewelry and finery, covered by the famous mask made of solid gold, a masterpiece of Egyptian art, lay at the bottom of a series of sarcophagi protected by four monumental golden chapels. All of this was accompanied by an exceptional collection of objects and works: richly decorated ceremonial chariots, royal furniture, chests, weapons, statues, precious metal elements, instruments, and ritual objects. A unique treasure that reflects all the wealth, complexity, and symbolic significance of ancient Egyptian civilization.

Meet Tutankhamun in July

The cultural highlight of summer in Paris, the tomb of Tutankhamun is reborn at Paris Expo on an impressive path of over 2,500 m². The spectacular reconstruction transports us through...In the different funeral chambers, restored with their volumes, sequences, and density, all supervised by Egyptologists. More than 1,000 objects have been placed along the route, arranged just like they were during the discovery of the tomb, creating a coherent collection that is true to reality. The works are, of course, replicas – crafted by specialized artisans under scientific supervision – based on archives, sketches, notes, and period photographs, as well as on the study of objects currently housed in the Cairo Museum.

Expo Toutankhamon

To extend the discovery beyond the tomb of Tutankhamun, this new edition of the exhibition also offers a virtual reality experience to explore ancient Egypt and the legacy of the pharaohs, as well as an immersive 360° projection room, bringing to life the worlds of Egyptian mythology. In short, there's no doubt that after leaving here, you’ll know much more than just the (iconic) line from Otis.
