Delicacy and poetry, but also vengeance and combat. From March 14th to 17th, 18 dancers take the stage at La Seine Musicale to deliver a contemporary interpretation of one of the greatest ballet classics: Giselle. Choreographed and staged by Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Derouault, the show with strong feminist values depicts the portrait of a powerful and unbreakable sisterhood.

A Sorority Story

Originally created in 1841Giselle has managed to captivate audiences beyond borders and eras. 182 years later, Giselle(s) breaks the codes of traditional romanticism. On the stage of La Seine Musicale, today's Giselle strives to live in harmony with the times. Faced with the 19th-century peasant girl stifled by male domination, the young woman progresses in a world where the female condition has evolved, where women are gradually gaining rights and autonomy. Leading an army of ruthless fighters, she hunts down the oppressors through her actions, seeking vengeance for these sisters who are victims of violence. Together...

And so, these Giselles break free from their chains.

Questioning love, questioning humanity

More than a breathtaking performance where light serves as the main backdrop and traditional ballet costumes are reimagined with modernity, the show questions and leaves reflections hanging. Through their work, Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Derouault seek to interrogate the human, its representations, and its beliefs. Love also plays a significant role. Isn't it dangerous to love? And after all, what does it mean to love?
