230 works to discover
Hugo's universe is to be discovered in four stages. The exhibition begins with a focus on the friendship between Victor Hugo and journalist Paul Meurice. Who better than a good friend to talk about the writer? Throughout Victor Hugo's exile period, he entrusted his financial and literary interests to Paul Meurice. It is thanks to him that Les Misérables will be adapted for the theater.
Among the 230 exhibited works, there is a section dedicated to images. Victor Hugo's writings were often accompanied by illustrations that he himself drew or had done by renowned artists. Works by Eugène Carrière, Henri Fantin-Latour, and Jean-Jacques Henner can be found.© Emilie Chaix
