The Editor

Completed on June 3rd, the free exhibition "CAPITALE(S), 60 years of urban art in Paris" continues with an exclusive event at the dedicated hip-hop cultural center. For three days, La Place opens its doors and immerses us in video and photo archives with touching tributes and immersive exhibitions. This allows us to (re)discover all the artists, murals, exhibitions, and events that have marked street art in recent decades. An immersive exhibition in the city: The association Hip Hop Citoyens brings out its video archives from the iconic festival "Paris Hip Hop," with a focus on its history closely linked to graffiti and street art. These annual cultural fortnights have left their mark from 2006 to 2019 and have been the flagship events of .The association takes us on a journey through various Parisian locations in this immersive exhibition: "Face au Mur" at the Reuilly Barracks, "Europa Graffiti" at the Baudouin Square, "Graffiti for Japan" on the walls of the former bus depot on Rue des Pyrénées, the "Chic et Choc" exhibition at the Maison des métallos, the "Rendez-vous Hip Hop" at the La Villette Periphery Space, the exhibitions at Bellevilloise, CENTQUATRE-PARIS and Point Éphémère... The whole city brings these archives back to life. Hip Hop Citoyens also partners with Maquis-Art, dedicated to the development and promotion of street art culture, particularly with the upcoming opening of Aérosols, dedicated hip hop venues in Saint-Denis, Toulouse, and Marseille. For the exhibition "L'AFTER CAPITALE(S)," Maquis Art will immerse us in a historical repertoire of photos, where we can immerse ourselves in the skin of graffiti artists thanks to a special e

Digital experience.

Exceptional tributes and retrospectives

As part of this "after" at La Place, we will find a tribute to Batsh, originally from Dakar and a prominent figure in graffiti in Île-de-France. Passed away in 2020, his illustrations still leave a lasting impression, especially with his intricately crafted large portraits depicting black heroes and heroines who have made their mark in history. The expo reveals some of his works, but also allows a group of artists to create murals inspired by his work. Marko93, Manyak, SunC, Jomad, Risc, and Andrew Augustos will bring his murals back to life before our eyes.

In addition to this touching tribute, we also have the work of photographer Dominique Dasse, also known as Brin d'Amour, with images that reflect her personal perspective on street art, instant and ephemeral. A great enthusiast of this art form since the aIn the 2000s, which she discovered through Miss.Tic's stencils, she became a vital source of iconographic documentation for the artistic movement.
