This is the big movie news of the week! Bridget Jones 4 is about to hit the theaters, much to our delight. And while we wait for Valentine's Day 2025 (a romantic film, of course!), Peacock, the production company, has happily just released a trailer to give us a little something to chew on. And one thing's for sure, these three minutes of footage promise a whole lot of twists and turns.

A Casting Gap

As we mentioned a few months ago, one of the two leading actors from this (for now) trilogy won’t be returning for this fourth installment. And it’s now confirmed, as the trailer leaves no doubt about the fate of Colin Firth's character, Mark Darcy: he is dead, since...4 years (and no one warned us)! This news hits us a bit hard, we have to admit, and we almost shed a tear. But hey, thankfully there are a few things to make up for it.

First off, the grand return of Hugh Grant, who we actually saw being “laid to rest” at the beginning of the 3rd installment. Daniel Cleaver is back, this time playing a "Uncle" who's bound to be a bit clumsy and a bit over the top. It'll be interesting to see if we warm up to the character or not. Luckily, two other characters are making an appearance to bring us a new love triangle, just to keep things in the cliché zone. They will be played by Leo Woodall (amazing in the series Day), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (brilliant in Twelve Years a Slave).

A little more motherly, still very much single

To accompany these two actors, we will see some familiar faces, as well as new ones, like the highly appreciated presence of Emma Thompson in the role of our heroine's psychologist (and we wish her plenty of courage). Unsurprisingly, the trailer presents us with a complex love triangle, punctuated by the increasingly disastrous interventions of the now widowed and mother of two single lady.

Well, based on the first images, there's no big surprise with this new installment. But for fans of the series, or just anyone looking for a slightly lighthearted romantic comedy, it seems like it will do the job just perfectly. Now we just have to wait until "Galentine's Day" 2025 to find out which of these two new admirers ends up with Bridget. And especially how Daniel Cleaver came back to life, because that's still a big mystery to this day.
