In November, the MK2 Beaubourg, Bibliothèque, and Quai de Seine will be buzzing with activity and welcoming some (really) great guests. As tradition dictates, the highly coveted dark rooms of the capital will once again host the selection of the LGBTQIA+ Chéries-Chéris festival. During this anniversary edition, 71 feature films (both fiction and documentary) and 80 short films will take center stage, vying for one of the seven awards handed out by the jury. Here are the productions that are sure to stand out.

The Favorites We Anticipate at Chéries-Chéris
In the world of cinema, special attention is given to the films that kick off and wrap up festivals. Chéries-Chéris is no exception, launching its 30th edition on November 19 at MK2 Bibliothèque with the world premiere of Mika Ex Machina. Directed by Déborah Saïag & Mika Tard, this investigative film follows a group of queer feminist friends who are dead set on solving a mystery, with answers that vary from person to person based on their individual experiences.
Blending comedy and thriller, this feature film is nothing like Egoïst, which will be screened (also at MK2 Bibliothèque on November 26) marking the end of a wild edition for Chéries-Chéris. This Japanese production tells the story of Kōsuke, a...
with an audacious elegance... to his detriment, as he ultimately drowns in the obsession with his appearance. He will hire Ryūta as a personal trainer and will let himself be overwhelmed by his feelings, until the day when Ryūta disappears abruptly.Between the two, a multitude of films and documentaries will accompany these two weeks of intense screenings. We keep an eye on Crossing Istanbul, a love story between a retired teacher and an activist for transgender rights, and we look forward to seeing the documentary Habibi, songs for my friends, which follows the last cabaret of the Flèche d'Or, a well-known cultural and community hub for Parisian night owls.

Exploring the Diversity of Queer Cultures on the Big Screen
Last year, around 17,000 viewers came together to discover queer productions ready to shake up cinema lovers: among the showcased selections, the brilliant The Summer With Carmen by Greek director Zacharias Mavroeidis, and Orlando, My Political Biography by writer and essayist Paul B. Preciado, an adaptation of a novel by Virginia Woolf, stood out especially.
In 2024, “this 30th Chéries-Chéris will be more than ever focused on the future and new queer territories to explore and experiment with,” promises Grégory Tilhac, the festival's artistic director. A truly exciting lineup has been put together to engage with queer cultures in a comprehensive way.
Creativity and originality, inclusivity, and plurality. The films showcase social struggles, the power of friendship, and then delve into parenthood, internalized homophobia – it would be inappropriate to claim there's no place for it here – gender deconstruction, and even dissident sexual expressions. It’s wonderful to see these themes interpreted in MK2, the historic cultural institutions of Paris.Le programme de la 30e édition du festival Chéries-Chéris est sorti !
