1. Sirāt, by Óliver Laxe

The holidays have barely come to an end, and we’re already missing the palm trees, the cocktails, and the break from our colleagues—basically, everything that starts with "co." It’s not by wallowing in our sorrows that we’ll drown our woes, but rather by heading to the cinema to see what was one of the revelations at the Cannes Festival. Sirāt is the unusual gem of the competition, the one we didn’t see coming—a psychedelic detour into hell, critics say, stemming from a most surprising storyline: a road trip in the heart of the Moroccan mountains, tangled up in a clandestine rave while searching for Mar, a lost teenager. With its captivating colors, apocalyptic atmosphere, and spiritual quest, this unconventional family is sure to face challenges on their journey, making us rethink our little back-to-school worries.

2. One Battle After Another, by Paul Thomas Anderson

Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, Regina Hall : for his tenth feature film, presented as the most ambitious of his career, Paul Thomas Anderson has gathered the most profitable actors in Hollywood. 140 million dollars of budget have made this blockbuster possible, adapted from the novel Vineland by the writer Thomas Pynchon. The plot? The revenge of a group of angry guys after the kidnapping of one of their daughter's by their worst enemy (up until now, they make sense). All the characters are more quirky than the last.it's one that others experience too, with fighting on every street corner, diving into the psychotic America of the Reagan years: we're not afraid to admit we've been quickly swept up by the hype.

3. A Simple Accident, by Jafar Panahi

Jafar Panahi's 11th feature film, A Simple Accident, stands out with its very short synopsis, composed of only seven words : « After a simple accident, events unfold…». By having filmed it secretly in his country, the Iranian director has faced a penalty of 20 years of filming prohibition, 14 years of travel ban, and a con.damnation to six years in prison in 2010 for "propaganda against the system" and seven months of detention interrupted by a hunger strike in 2023. A rebellious spirit for a thriller whose numerous qualities, writing and style, have been unanimously praised, logically winning the Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or 2025. An act that is both artistic and profoundly political, and we can’t wait to grasp its full power.

Release in theaters on October 1, 2025

4. The Little Last One, by Hafsia Herzi

You’ve guessed it, the author of these lines has her sights set on the films awarded at Cannes, and even more so if...They have something to do with Hafsia Herzi. An absolutely striking actress with a disarming naturalistic acting style, this young woman gained recognition in the films of Abdellatif Kechiche (La Graine et Le Mulet, Mektoub My Love) before breaking away from the director to explore other dramatic worlds (Le Ravissement, Borgo), even stepping behind the camera herself. La petite dernière, adapted from the novel of the same name by Fatima Daas, is her third feature film. And what a success it is! A humble winner of the latest Queer Palm, it traces the intimate journey of a young Muslim woman from the suburbs who, as she discovers while leaving home to study, is lesbian. A brilliantly directed narrative that simultaneously introduces the actress Nadia Metelli to the wider public, who was cast by chance on the banks of the Seine and left Cannes with the award for best female performance.;

5. New Wave, by Richard Linklater

1959. At the Cannes Film Festival, François Truffaut's film The 400 Blows receives acclaim and paves the way for young, budding filmmakers. Supported by François Truffaut and Claude Chabrol, Jean-Luc Godard tries to persuade producer Georges de Beauregard to finance his first feature film: Breathless. This movie tells, in a fictional format, the behind-the-scenes story, from the project's inception to its completion, the fake making-of of a true masterpiece to come. For lovers·from the Nouvelle Vague, and all the others.

6. Chien 51, by Cédric Jimenez

After Bac Nord and Novembre, Cédric Jimenez is back to shake up our screens and perceptions with a new hard-hitting film. The action of Chien 51 takes place in a futuristic Paris not too far from our own, in 2045, where AI has finally imposed its law. The police officers are relying on the thinking robot Alma to monitor the city, divided into 3 zones, they...mes correspondant to the different social classes that structure society. When the inventor of Alma is murdered, Salia (Adèle Exarchopoulos, definitely everywhere) an elite investigator from Zone 2, and Zem (the good old Gilles Lellouche), a disillusioned police officer from Zone 3, must work together to find the culprit... Until they uncover a conspiracy that threatens to irrevocably disrupt the established order. 8. Avatar: of Fire and Ash, by James Cameron

Pandora, with its floating cliffs, its grand Leonopteryx, and the brave Na’Vi to ride them. Unforgettable imaginary elements, the recipe for the success of Avatar in 2009, are highlighted in a few images from the trailer for the third installment, available since July 28 in theaters. We admit to being a bit skeptical, fearing a pale copy of the previous one, as the characters seem to continue on the same narrative path: Kiri discovers the extent of her connection with Eywa, Neteyam (Jake's son) and Tsireya (daughter of the Metkayina clan chiefs) are living their romance, while Jake Sully still seems quite paternalistic, stifling his wife Neytiri's fiery spirit. But we also trust James Cameron, who seems determined to keep his saga alive with spectacular visuals, adding some menacing reddish hues to the azure waters of the sea people and including an unhappy volcano. We’ll have to see if the 3 hours and 12 minutes of film will dazzle us or just burn our eyes.
