With its 114.5 million viewers around the world, Adolescence is now the fourth most-watched English series in Netflix history. This unexpected success hasn't gone unnoticed by the producers, who announced earlier this week that they're seriously considering a sequel to the mini-series, even though the delicacy of its narrative might not lend itself to any additions.
A Not-so-Great Idea?
A mini-series whose conclusion perhaps leaves more doors open than unresolved intrigues...
Excitement resolved, that’s the boldness of Adolescence, which dropped almost without warning on March 13, 2025, on Netflix, and swept the ratings in the following weeks, surpassing those of the last season of Stranger Things or the launch of the Chroniques de Bridgerton. Just to remind you, the series explores the causes and consequences of the murder of Kathy, a 13-year-old girl who was stabbed multiple times by Jamie Miller, a classmate of the same age.Used to longer programs that leave little room for interpretation, we loved its brevity, allowing, in four episodes shot entirely in one continuous take, to tackle a series of sensitive questions without missing a beat. The announcement of a sequel seemed economically justified to us, almost inevitable!inevitable, but artistically regrettable, at the risk of adding, in the name of fan service, superfluous information to a story that has brilliantly done without it.

A second independent installment
However, the creators Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham have addressed our concerns by clearly stating that there will not be a proper season 2, meaning no continuation of Jamie Miller's story, beautifully portrayed by the young Owen Cooper.
An independent season, once again co-produced by Plan B Entertainment, the company of Brad Pitt, is reportedly in development. This season will feature different protagonists and a fresh storyline, tackling various issues affecting the youth, like cyberbullying, the men's rights phenomenon of incels, and more broadly, the misogyny in online communities.
