Everyone knows Serge Gainsbourg, the famous performer, but many forget about the cinematic career of the artist alongside his music. Sometimes an actor, sometimes a director, and occasionally a composer, Gainsbourg made his mark in both film and television, appearing in movies of varying success that his former home turned museum invites us to (re)discover from April 14 to 28, as highlighted by Vogue. It's a delightful way to pay homage to him from a unique angle, especially as he would have celebrated his 97th birthday this month.

En cinquante ans, rien n’a bougé.
Il ne manque qu’une chose essentielle: lui.

Gainsbourg's Footprint in Cinema
With the support of the Saint Laurent house and in partnership with INA and the National Music Centre, this exciting series of screenings will kick off beautifully with two iconic films: Anna (1967) by Pierre Koralnik and À bout portant (1973) by Roger Sciandra.
In Anna, Serge Gainsbourg plays the matchmaker and helps his friend Serge (Jean-Claude Brialy) track down a mysterious stranger (Anna Karina) he met at a train station. Add to that a guest appearance by Marianne Faithfull as the meddling aunt, and you have a delightful little pop gem!
À bout portant, on the other hand, dives into the intimacy of the star, at his home on rue de Verneuil, surrounded by Jane Birkin and their young child, Charlotte. It’s a documentary that brings the scent of cigarettes, whiskey, and creativity to life.

Connecting the Encounter to the Image
To shed light on these works in relation to science, music, and cinema, the four sessions – taking place on Mondays, April 14, 21, and 28 – will be followed by discussions with exciting special guests: Pierre Koralnik (the director of Anna), Sébastien Merlet (the scientific curator of the museum and a specialist in Gainsbourg), Stéphane Lerouge (the mastermind of soundtracks), along with journalists Pauline Baduel and Gautier Roos (madelen, INA). It's a star-studded lineup to decode the phenomenon of scenes and images, as popular as it is controversial, that was Ga.insbourg.
