It’s the case that shook Paris, France, and the world last year. On October 19, 2025, a precious jewelry heist struck the Louvre in just a matter of minutes. A scene worthy of a real action movie, which is soon going to get its big-screen adaptation. A feature film directed by Romain Gavras, based on the events as well as the media frenzy, and inspired by the investigation Main basse sur le Louvre by Jean-Michel Décugis, Jérémie Pham-Lê and Nicolas-Charles Torrent — published by Flammarion on May 27.

A highly anticipated movie in 2028

It's the director behind films like Les Misérables and Athena, who has chosen the one they affectionately call  the...Heist of the Century » as the subject of his next film. Alongside Simon Jacquet (Bac Nord) and Mourad Winter (L’amour, c’est surcoté), he is working on a script that we should see adapted for the big screen by 2028, as revealed by our colleagues from Film Français. The production will be managed by Iconoclast — with whom Romain Gavras had previously collaborated on Athena and The World is Yours

A spectacular heist in seven minutes

On October 19, 2025, nine jewels and Crown Jewels of France — emerald necklace, tiara, and sapphire set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense, brooch of Empress Eugénie… — were stolen from the Apollo Gallery at the Louvre. The heist was carried out by an organized gang, taking place in just seven minutes. The thieves gained entry to the museum using a telescopic arm and a cutting tool. Only the crown of Empress Eugénie, which the thieves dropped, has been recovered to date. In total, it is estimated that €88 million worth of jewelry was stolen. Security enhancements for the museum are set to begin.
