Madonna Louise Ciccone, better known by her mononym Madonna, inspires as much admiration as she does curiosity. The queen of pop, as some still love to call her, has dazzled us for five decades with countless hits and fourteen albums; a productivity that shows no signs of slowing down today.
Whether she's a singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, producer, or businesswoman, the one who has lived a thousand lives will share her story on Netflix through a series helmed by Shawn Levy, the American director behind a slew of blockbusters (Night at the Museum, Deadpool & Wolverine), as well as the fantastic Stranger Things, an original creation of the platform.

The Achievement of a Lifetime
For Madonna, it's a relief. She wanted a biopic, and she's going to get one. For some years now, the pop icon has been working on this project, approaching producers and directors, but to no avail. A first project kicked off in 2020 with Universal Studios, but it didn't materialize due to disagreements. The same fate befell the script co-written with Diablo Cody (Juno, Tully): after some differences, she withdrew from the project. In 2023, Madonna gives up without hiding her frustration and goes on tour for her Celebration Tour, while her biopic finds itself back at square one.
Surprise: it turns out that Madonna will finally share her life story in a Netflix-style series. The star is so invested in this that we can be sure she'll be involved at every stage of the process! .Let’s at least hope that, if not for objectivity, the project shows some creativity. It promises to stay as true as possible to the many details of his life, as Dazed makes clear in its columns.

Behind the singer, the actress
A scene monster with a meteoric rise in the music industry, Madonna remains a persevering actress, doing everything possible to carve out a place for herself in the film world. Since the mid-'80s, she has made her mark on screen with Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), a cult film where she plays a fantasized version of herself: eccentric, free-spirited, and elusive. This is followed by roles in Who's That Girl (1987) and Dick Tracy (1990), which ride on her media image, even while struggling to convince critics. Yet, it is with In Bed with Madonna (1991), a provocative documentary about her Blond Ambition tour, that she definitively breaks down the barrier between stage and screen, asserting total control over her public narrative.
The peak of her acting career…It all started in 1996 with Evita, where she played the role of the Argentine first lady, Eva Perón. Supported by a celebrated performance (which earned her a Golden Globe), Madonna showed she could embody something beyond her own myth. This success remained unique, and while the 2000s saw her facing a string of failures, from The Next Best Thing to Swept Away, the star at least paved the way for her heirs, including Lady Gaga (A Star is Born), Ariana Grande (Wicked), and Selena Gomez (Emilia Perez), who have launched successful acting careers. The series, of which she is both the instigator and the muse, will be the first artistic product to reflect on her career. For now, we don't know the release date or the periods it will explore. The only ongoing rumor is that Julia Garner (Inventing Anna, Ozark) will be the lead actress, and given their resemblance, we are just waiting for her to…be confirmed !
According to Deadline, Julia Garner would most likely play Madonna in the upcoming Netflix limited series about the singer’s life.

Garner was previously attached to star as Madonna in a film biopic, before the project was scrapped.
