Music has had its time, now it's time for cinema. The Puerto Rican artist Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, known as Bad Bunny, is not done adding strings to his artistic bow: he will take the lead role in Porto Rico by René Pérez Joglar — known as Residente — a historical film about the island he hails from.

An exceptional cast for this historical film

From the Super Bowl stadium to the big screen, it's just a step. At the intersection of drama and historical feature film, Porto Rico will take place at the end of the 19th century, a time when the United States took control of the island. The choice of this spelling is not insignificant : it corresponds to

to the anglicization of the original name, which is Puerto Rico. « I have dreamed of making a film about my country since childhood. The true story of Puerto Rico has always been surrounded by controversies. This film is an affirmation of who we are — told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves », claims Residente to Premiere

And it's an amazing cast that has been chosen! Alongside Bad Bunny, we will see Javier Bardem (Eat, Pray, Love, Escobar, No Country for Old Men), Edward Norton (Fight Club, American History X, The Perfect Stranger) and also Viggo Mortensen (Green Book, Captain Fantastic, The Lord of the Rings).

A grand tribute

Although he has appeared in Bullet Train, Cassandro, Happy Gilmore 2, or Taken, Bad Bunny has yet to star in a film.

On February 8th, he delivered a stunning performance that paid a special tribute to Puerto Rico during the Super Bowl halftime show. From now on, it will be through cinema that he shines a spotlight on his homeland and brings it into the limelight.
