In recent years, Parisian cinema closures have been numerous — Le George V, the Gaumont-Marignan, the UGC Normandie, and even the Miramar — leaving little hope for the future of independent movie theaters in the capital. However, one of them seems to be miraculously bouncing back. As Le Parisien explains, the art-house cinema L’Élysées Lincoln is set to reopen its doors between the end of September and the beginning of October.

56 years of history for this cinema

It was in 1969 that L’Élysées Lincoln was inaugurated by Boris Gourevitch. At that time, just like today, the cinema has a knack for offering a sharp programming, featuring high-quality auteur films. It consists of three screens: one with 145 seats, another with 42 seats, and the last one with about 35 seats plus 200 standing spots to host various events.

A venue that got a facelift

Seven months of renovation were needed to allow this cinema to welcome back the audience in this 2025 season. It boasts a “neo-retro style” inspired by the 1970s.

Don’t expect the traditional black walls and red chairs, but rather a modern decor with colorful walls and chairs similar to those in the cinemas of “the British and the Swiss.” All of this comes with cutting-edge technology and an optimized customer experience. Subsidies from the City of Paris, the National Center for Cinema, and the region have notably allowed L'Élysées Lincoln to get a makeover to ensure, hopefully, a long-lasting future.
