But what exactly is a tropical night? It has nothing to do with open-air parties or pineapple cocktails. In weather terms, it’s a night where the temperature doesn’t drop below 20°C. And in Nice, we’re experiencing it. In all its beauty, too. With minimum temperatures flirting around 25°C, we're literally sleeping in a warm bath. This phenomenon, which sounds almost like a postcard, has very specific origins. It’s warm, dry air coming from North Africa that glides over the region. This scorching breeze replaces the cooler Mediterranean air and settles quietly on the French Riviera, and once it’s there, it doesn’t budge, due to lack of wind.
Real consequences for our bodies
In concrete terms, our bodies suffer. The nighttime heat disrupts ourSleep slows down cell regeneration and increases thermal stress. To minimize damage, it's recommended to air out the space thoroughly as soon as the sun goes down and to sleep with the windows wide open (if the mosquitoes leave you alone, of course!). Also, try out various heatwave hacks: hang damp sheets, use a fan set to a low speed, and keep hydrated constantly.

A heat that settles in… and doesn’t budge
When evening comes, usually, the sea acts as a natural air conditioner. But here’s the thing: even the Mediterranean is too hot. The result: not enough temperature difference between day and night to cool down the atmosphere. It’s as if summer refuses to turn off the heating. And it’s not about to stop: until at least June 22, tropical nights will keep rolling in. Last year, they were a bit shy, as in 2022, they broke records with 11 nights of this kind before even mid-June. This year, we’ve already had three… but the rest looks scorching.
So what to do? Maybe head out in the evening, enjoy the lovely nights on the Promenade or in the charming alleys of Old Nice. Have a drink on a terrace, listen to the gentle lapping of the sea, redécouvrir la ville sous un ciel étoilé... Parce que tant qu’à ne pas dormir, autant vivre la nuit autrement !
