A submarine train to connect Nice to Corsica? It's coming soon!
You dreamed it, Nice has made it happen. The azure city has announced the upcoming opening of the first submarine train line, allowing travel to Corsica in less than an hour. No more endless ferry rides or long flights: welcome to the maritime rail revolution! The project, called Ligne Corsica Express, will cover the 180 kilometers that separate the two shores underwater. The inauguration is planned for next spring, and it seems that the tests are already "very promising" (especially regarding the fish smell in the carriages).
A train racing underwater at full speed… and without any headaches!
The idea is simple: a super-fast train gliding beneath the Mediterranean Sea, with panoramic windows for viewing the fish!sounds and the seabed. The journey takes only 50 minutes, which is just a fraction of the time it currently takes to reach Bastia or Ajaccio by ferry. "People want to save time and avoid the endless lines to board the boats. We offer them the solution," explains Marc Dufresne, the project director.
The carriages are inspired by the most beautiful yachts, featuring leather seats, cozy little lounges, and giant portholes to watch the fish perform their show. And of course, to stay within the Mediterranean spirit, each passenger will be treated to a glass of champagne... or a local beer, your choice. But wait, that's not all: to dive the experience even deeper, warm sand baths will be set up on board, keeping the holiday spirit alive throughout the journey. A truly trendy ferry train concept.
And what if things go wrong?
Experts assure that everything is under control. A team of divers...Experiments will be present at each departure to ensure that the underwater line remains intact. "We’ve even planned a backup submarine. Just in case!" adds an engineer with a wink. If you've always dreamed of seeing the inside of a train… underwater, this is the moment you've been waiting for!
