Every summer, ARS Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur conducts regular testing on all the beaches in the department. The goal: to ensure that the water is clean and safe for swimmers. Following the 2024 analyses, some areas have unfortunately been declared non-compliant, resulting in a swimming ban for the 2025 season. This decision was made in collaboration with the concerned municipalities.
Saint-Laurent-du-Var and Menton particularly affected
In Saint-Laurent-du-Var, the Landsberg and Cousteau beaches will have to remain deserted all summer long. The reason: a persistent pollution of the water. It's a disappointment for regular visitors, even though the city has been able to reopen two other beaches that had long been closed. In theMenton isn't spared either: The Gorbio beach is also classified as unsuitable for swimming, again due to water quality reasons. The Marina beach in Villeneuve-Loubet will not welcome swimmers this summer either. And it's not bacteria causing the issue, but rather construction work that requires a preventive closure for the entire season.

Possible Temporary Closures
And that’s not all: in addition to these already announced closures, other temporary restrictions may come into play throughout the summer. From June to September, the ARS conducts weekly checks. If a pollution spike is detected, a beach may be closed for a few days until things return to normal. In 2024, no less than 96 temporary closures were recorded in the department. So before you lay down your towel this summer, it's highly recommended to take a quick detour to the ARS PACA website to avoid any unpleasant surprises...
