In Nice, it's goodbye to toxic products and traps worthy of a Tom & Jerry cartoon! The city has decided to take charge in combating the rat invasion with a method that is effective, clean, and much smarter than traditional rat poisons. Recently, 25 state-of-the-art devices called « Ekomille » have been deployed in the downtown area. The goal? To track rodents without dumping chemicals into nature. This is the first eco-friendly offensive against those pesky furry squatters, who, let’s not forget, can pass on some not-so-glamorous diseases.

1,500 rats captured in six weeks

The principle is simple yet formidable: a bait lures the rat into a chamber, a mechanism tips, and bam, the rat ends up in a bath of alcohol where it is neutralsized. It’s clean, with no prolonged suffering, and poses no danger to other species or passersby. In just six weeks, no less than 1,500 rats have been captured!

. It’s safe to say the machine is already proving its worth. Rented for a period of nine months, these new generation traps will be closely evaluated to decide their future in the urban landscape of Nice.

Christian Estrosi, clearly determined not to let the city be overrun, emphasized the importance of the fight: public health, hygiene, quality of life... everything is connected. And even though municipal services have ramped up their efforts (393 interventions since January!), the city hall is also inviting residents to do their part: avoid littering, secure trash bins... in short, show some civic responsibility.

This anti-rat plan is part of a broader strategy for a cleaner, greener, and most importantly, less infested city. And if the experiment proves successful, it’s very likely that these little wooden traps will become the rats’ worst enemies in Nice.
